Happy Monday!
This week's topic is washi tape. I will admit I was a late coming to the washi tape party. But now that I have joined....I can really see its appeal. It is so much fun to use. It lends a sense of casualness to my work. If that is even a thing. LOL!
This week scrapbooking is definitely on the to-do list. I will be catching up on my Project Inspiration and if I get those done I will be happy. I would love to make a card or two, but that may just be wishful thinking.
So are you in love with washi tape? How do you use it?

I'm DEFINITELY in love with it! I'm in love with those in the picture above too! Who makes those?
ReplyDeleteI like using it to decorate envelopes for my swaps and on cards I use it where I would have previously used ribbon.
It is from Anna Griffin....you can buy it on the Home Shopping Network. I really like it too, but I thought it was a little spendy. :)
DeleteOh, the Washi tape bug. I caught it really bad when it first came out... I have leavened that the more colorful, the more difficult it is to use.
ReplyDeleteI don't own any. I have entered contests to win some but it has never happened. I do love what you have shown here and I can see where it would be nice to use in place of ribbon. I have also seen some really cool cards using it but it not a priority for me.
ReplyDeleteI've been given 3 rolls and they are still pretty much intact. I still don't "get" washi tape - I don't like the look when it is torn and placed on a project. The other problem, for me, is that most are translucent, so I can't really use it in place of ribbon. Perhaps, I'm wrong?
ReplyDeleteYou are correct in your analysis. It seems to fit well with the whole 'smash book' idea. But if you don't like that look it probably won't work for you. But most supplies are like that. Somethings I love and others I just think....I don't 'get it'.
DeleteI have 3 rolls, and only one is translucent. I use mine as another ribbon or paper strip in an accent of different lengths of strips, especially at the corners of pages. I have also used them as photo corners, although they're more difficult to use than regular photo corners. Sometimes I cut them with scissors to get the straight look, but I also love the raw, casual look of the torn edge.
DeleteI have quite a few of the rolls. They come in real handy when I make a flip card. Sometimes I can't find two sided card stock so I use plain and decorate both sides with washi tape. I've also used it to make "feathers" for hats on some Victorian lady stamps. The old tried & true is using it to help square up lines that are a little off.
ReplyDeleteI'm very grateful for Marissa's reminder about using it with envelopes! It's a great way to tie the envelope to the card.
Sometimes I don't like the translucence so I put it on paper/cardstock that coordinates with the project. The tape takes on a different look depending on the "backing" paper giving me a lot more flexibility in place of ribbon. Plain tape, in particular, can take on a different hue depending on the backing. Using it to frame in something is fun too.
There was one time when I was using the last scrap of paper to make something. I had to piece it so I covered the piece with coordinating washi tape to disguise it.
I've had a good time covering old watch batteries with washi tape. I didn't have a round disc the size I wanted so I made one with shrinky-dinks and used washi tape for color. Dimensional glue is fun with it too.
......can you tell I like washi tape?

Oh..;..I LOVE the idea for using it was a 'hinge'. I am so trying that!
DeleteThere's also a great technique out there about covering a piece of cardstock with strips of tape and then die-cutting shapes out of it. They turn out REALLY cute! I did a bunch of feathers that looked amazing :) I would be really interested to hear how people that have A LOT deal with portable storage. Do you just pick and choose? I go to at least one crop a month so I'm always back and forth and I have a hard time finding portable solutions.
