February 3rd Topic: Heat Embossing

Happy Monday!

It is time to post a new blog topic.

Many of your guess the right topic.....embossing. Next week I make my riddle a bit harder.  This week we will focus on heat embossing.  We will explore dry embossing at a later date.

Sad to say when I set up everything to take this photo I realized I have embossing powder jars that I have never opened.  And I don't even have that many.  Hopefully this week I can solve that problem. :)

I was a long hold out on heat embossing.  I did not want to start a new 'addiction'.  But I finally jumped in head 1st.  I am happy say that even though I really do love heat embossing, I have not become a huge collector.  I still only have a small assortment of colors....and that suits me perfectly.  My favorite color actually has no color, it is clear.  It allows me to use any of the inks I have on hand.

I have never used heat embossing on a scrapbook page, so that will be a new adventure for me.  I have yet to even decide what page I will be working on.  But that is part of the fun. :)  I will also be working on my ATC card for Project Inspiration.  And there is NO way I cannot create a few cards this week. I need to make a few Valentine's Day cards....that is tops on my list.

So what are you working on this week.  Will you be joining me as I play with embossing or are you choosing a different topic.  What projects are you working on this week?

Thanks for stopping by,
Jeri'

  1. I was just using some of my embossing powders this weekend when I was at a crop and I had forgotten how much I LOVE them! I am definitely an addict though. Although, I tempered that I little because my friend and I share them when we get them. That way I don't have a TON of each color, but I end up with MORE colors! :) I made a REALLY cute little swatch book too so I'd know what all the colors looked like when heated since some of them are really different.

    1. That is a great idea. I think it would take a long time to use up an entire jar. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Funny you should bring up heat embossing, Like you I have a few colors but have not used it for a while I still have colors I haven't used until this weekend. I used a bubble gum scented embossing powder on a card. Opening it smelled just like bubble gum. Of course I decided that I need to use this more I just love the results.

    1. I am just not sure about scented embossing powder. Not sure I would like that. :) But I do really love working with embossing powders.

  3. I started heat embossing back in the 90's and although only silver and gold was available I loved it. I've been told you can add powder Kool Aid in your embossing powders to get scents but have not tried it. I love to add glitter to the clear which stretches what I have. Also I have mixed colors together. Just remember to shake the powder before opening it to mix everything up. I have also successfully added a few drops of re-inker to color the powder. Did I tell you I'm a Frugal Crafter? Look forward to using a heat embossing tool this week that arrived from the North Pole a couple of years ago. :-)

  4. Used it this weekend at a crop to make a few tags as well as just to emboss some stamped numbers on some spreads ... since purchasing the Tim Holtz distress inks, dyes and paints this past year, I'm finding many new uses and techniques... I've only created a few tags so far, but, if anyone want's ideas and is new to heat embossing... there are some very cool techniques to use with distress inks if you just search for Tim Holtz distress or tags on Pinterest or You Tube... many of the techniques can also be created using standard inks as well... Stampin Up, Close to My Heart, etc... Happy embossing!

  5. Hi, my name is Penny and I am an embossing powder addict. I use EP every time I'm in my craft room, sometimes I just emboss because I love to watch the transformation. I have WAY more colors than anyone should need, but in my defense, I use to teach at an LSS (BTW, it was the last in the area and has closed) and feature the embossing powders in classes. I love clear embossing powder as well as I love to do resists. My most used colors - clear, white, black detail, and gold detail - are in sandwich sized plastic containers. It is much easier and time saving to spoon the powder onto my project and dump it back into the container. I do use the scrap paper method for the less frequently used. I'm sure that when some of my colors are gone I won't replace them. I have made a few of my own custom colors like Myoriah, I like the neons combined much more than separate.

I'm not sold on scented powders either. I don't think I want to get kids into the habit of sniffing things, unfortunately it has so many negative connotations these days.

This week I'll be working on some mixed media projects as well as cards.

  7. I've been wanting to try heat embossing since last year, but didn't know where to start. I'm so blessed, a friend that moved away just gave me all of her embossing powders (most of them new, unopened packages) and her heat gun. Now this challenge comes along and I can't wait to give it a try.

  8. Could've sworn I left a post yesterday but anyway, I just ordered my first bottle of embossing powder and am so glad to see this topic here on the blog. I have a feeling I'm going to fall in love with embossing once I get going and learn more about it.

  9. Cheryl, you are really going to love it. Heat embossing is what took me beyond basic scrapbooking - I have to blame embossing powder for the craft stash I now have! :)
