Tips for Embossing with Spellbinders Dies

All November long we have focused on embossing.  This week we turn out attention to cut and emboss dies.  As you already know I am a huge fan of Spellbinders dies.  I am a fan because they are so versatile.

Included in today's blog post is a bonus video, it includes tips for getting the best possible emboss using low-profile dies.

Project #1-December Weekly Title Page
This year I am creating a December Daily album for the 1st time.  Actually it is a December Weekly album.  I do not have enough activities for a daily album, plus it be quicker for me to do weekly then daily.  I may also add Thanksgiving and New Years to the album....we shall see.  It is a work in progress right now.

I will be posting my foundation pages once they are done. I hold out little hope that I will have mine completed by the end of December.  I am hoping for the end of January. :)

Supplies: Dies (Spellbinders/Medallions 8, Tim Holtz/Tattered Banner & Ticket Border), stamps (Tim Holtz), star template, embossing ink and powder, pattern paper (Basic Grey), card stock, ink, sewing machine, Bind-it-All, stickers and white pen.

Project #2: December Weekly-Weekly Pages
This is one of my weekly foundation pages.  There are 4 days on the front and 3 days on the back.  The only mistake I made is using stickers instead of stamps for the numbers of the days.

UGGG!!! Finding that many 1's and 2's was quite a challenge.  So they do not match.  Kinda like the rest of my life.

Supplies:  Dies (Spellbinders/Charm Dies), Stamps (Just Rite Stampers), pattern paper (Basic Grey), journaling paper (Project Life), sticker letters, ink, tag punch (Martha Stewart) and oval die (Spellbinders).

Project #3-Thanksgiving Printer's Tray
I love printer's trays.  But you already knew that....the whole world knows that.  Rest assured, I only have one or two out at a time.  I imagine it might seem like my house is filled with altered trays. LOL!  Not quite.

I still have a lot of work to on this tray and I am looking forward to it.  A wonderful escape during my 'vacation' next week.  I will have my husband and son home all week, by Tuesday I will someplace to hide. This should be a great stress relief for the coming chaos.

This piece includes the items from the 4 Project Challenge.  Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to see how I made this and other projects this week.

Supplies:  Die and Stamp (Sizzix), burlap paper (DCWV), metal key, wood banner, text stamp, ribbon, brads, stain (Tim Holtz), twine, brads, floss and ink.

Bonus Video-Getting a Great Emboss with Spellbinders Dies

The video below includes tips for embossing with Spellbinders dies.  Since the dies are so thin it is sometimes hard to get a good emboss.  In fact, it was a challenge to emboss with the dies and actually have you see the emboss on the video.  The emboss on the 1st two samples are difficult to see, but by samples 3 and 4 you can definitely see the emboss.  As I progress through the samples the embossing gets deeper and deeper.

If you want to see the video of how I created these projects, be sure to sign up for our newsletter.  In the newsletter on Monday, 11/24/2014 I will be sending out my process video.  Included in the video are steps for creating the medallion from my December Weekly Title Page

Next week we are officially on vacation for Thanksgiving.  If you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you are able to enjoy the company of friends and family and food. :)
