Our 1st topic is.....electronic die-cutting machines!

Happy Monday Crafters!

It has finally arrived....our 1st challenge topic.  This week we will focus on electronic die-cutting machines.  I will be specifically focusing on the Cricut.  But maybe you have the Silhouette or Eclips or The Slice.

If you are like me, you may have a love hate relationship with your die-cut machine.  I fall in and out of love with my Cricut so fast it is almost like a soap opera.  I purchased it the very 1st week it was available, even though I said I wouldn't.  Which is kind of a theme for me and die-cut machines.  After several moves and starting a company it sat collecting dust.  I then upgraded to the Expression and purchased the Gypsy and a lot of carts.  The Gypsy helped a lot and I started using the Cricut again.  Maybe there is hope for this relationship after all.

But then I went through 2 more moves and again it started to gather dust.  It just felt too time consuming.  Then last year I started scrapbooking again and I remembered why I purchased the Cricut in the 1st place.  I have since learned how to use Cricut Craft Room and that has made it much easier.  Unfortunately, my Gypsy died when I tried to sync it to CCR.  UGGGG!  I have to get that fixed so I can link all of my carts.  So the relationship continues.  Stay tuned to find out if we can make it work this time or if we finally head towards a divorce. :)

This week I will be focusing on scrapbooking and a ATC card for my inspiration board.

See you in the classroom,
Jeri

  1. I JUST RECEIVED AN EXPRESSION 2 FROM HUBBY FOR CHRISTMAS. (HE'S THE ELECTRONIC WIZARD IN THE FAMILY. ) WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT WOULDN'T CUT ACCURATELY. CRICUT REPLACED IT FREE (EVEN THE SHIPPING). THE 2ND ONE SEEMS FINE, BUT I HAVE YET TO PLUG IT INTO MY COMPUTER . RIGHT NOW IT IS SLOW GOING, BUT HOPEFULLY THAT WILL IMPROVE. I AM INTERESTED IN WHAT CLASSES YOU WILL OFFER.

    1. Marlene,

Congrats on your new machine. I HIGHLY recommend Cara Miller's Cricut in a Flash class. She will help you get the machine up and running. Plus it is on sale right now. I have often said...if I have a question I email Cara....she is that good. You can view the class description here: http://www.mycreativeclassroom.com/course/info.php?id=830

  2. When I first got my Silhouette Cameo I used it almost every single day. Now it seems like it usually only gets used during the holidays to make gift bags and boxes. Once in awhile I will do a print and cut. I have to remind myself that one of the reasons I bought it was to make embellishments for cards.

    1. One of things I did with the Cricut was to create a file with tags, arrow and etc. I tend to create mini-albums, so when I start a new album and cut out the files with the paper I am using so I have embellishments to work with. Helps me feel like I get more out of my machine. :)

  4. So far I've managed to stay away from the electronic die cutting machines. A monthly crop I go to has one I can use, so if I REALLY need something, I can use hers. I do have a TON of dies and a Vagabond though that doesn't get nearly enough use! I've tried keeping it plugged in a fairly handy place, and that has helped. Now having space on my table for it is another matter completely!

  5. I divorced my Cricut years ago and don't miss it - even when I am scrapbooking. I do have an e-bosser and a ton of dies. I'd like to know how you use the machine for scrapping.

  6. I certainly understand where you are coming from Jeri! I love my Cricut but I don't use it nearly enough or to its full potential. I have a lot of dies & use them, but lately I have been trying not to buy them if I have that image on a cartridge. Look forward to your comments & helps in this area!

  7. I recently got my own craft space that includes an area where I can keep my Cricut out. Since it's now so easy to get going, I use it all the time.
I also have a Gypsy that I love. I am afraid to plug it into my computer after hearing so many horror stories. One day I'll have to brave it so I can try out CCR. But the main reason I got my Cricut/Gypsy was because it didn't need a computer.

  8. I love my Cricut and Design Studio. I do use them a lot and sometimes force myself to do layouts and Mini Albums with out using a Cricut Cut.
