Why I am finally joining the pocket scrapbooking craze!

I have never been one to jump on a trend....ok, that is a complete lie. :) I have a number of tools and supplies that ended up in my craft room because they were the next big thing. (The Cricut comes to mind.)  I do tend to wait to jump in, but when I jump in it is at 100%.  Such is the case with the topic at hand....pocket scrapbooking.

The whole Project Life/Project 365 craze never really appealed to me.  I will admit that I only recently started scrapbooking again. While I would make a page here and there, I was very inconsistent. So maybe I would have joined the fun sooner.

As I started to get re-organized and created a plan for my albums. (Yes, I need a plan.)  I had long ago given up 12x12 scrapbooking, it is just too big for me. My favorite album size is 8x8 and I prefer to do yearly review albums plus a few themed albums.

As I was searching for new products and techniques I came across pocket scrapbooking.....and something just clicked.  If you don't know what pocket scrapbooking is, it is basically using project life supplies and page protectors without the weekly commitment.

The system is perfect for me as I like small. :)  Each section of a page protector is its own little project.  Again perfect for me....as my time is often limited.  I rarely have time to complete an entire layout in one sitting.  This allows me to divide up the pieces of each page and work on them independently.  I also include regular scrapbook pages and calendar pages.  I actually like an album that a mix of pages, it always seems more interesting to me.

The best part about coming to a craze late is that you can usually find some good deals on the supplies.  And I have had tremendous good luck finding discounted supplies.  Probably too many good deals.  Now I have to research ideas for organizing. LOL!  As we finish out 2014 you will see more scrapbooking projects in my blog posting.  I am very happy to be scrapbooking again.  I forgot how satisfying it can be.

Just in case you missed it, Shirley Pando has a project life workshop starting today: Cricut: DIY Project Life.

And now to the really important part of this blog post.....next week's challenge topic.  I have a quick riddle for you.  See if you can guess the topic and post it below.

Riddle: If you own this tool then you probably know the terms: Fill to Page, Fit to Length, Auto Fill, Multi Cut, Mat Size, Center Cut.  Or maybe you know French Manor, Create a Critter, Base Camp, Animal Antics, Accent Essentials and Mini Monsters.  What am I?

Happy Crafting,
Jeri'

  1. You are a Cricut? I had a Cricut Expression for many years and it mostly collected dust so I sold it. I have never missed it. I am so glad you are back!

  4. I have a Cricut that I've probably owned for 3 or 4 years and NEVER used and I knew right away that your topic will be Cricut. LOL! I have quite a few cartridges, too, so I really need to start using the thing!

    1. Your comment is a major force behind what we did at MCC and now at Craft Classes Online....and the classes I teach. I cannot tell you how often I have heard the same comment. We always strive to help our students use theur 'stuff'. So I hope we inspire you next week to actually get your Cricut out of the box and start cutting. :)

  6. I have used a personal Cricut for 7 years and love it. I have completed 102 albums that I never would have finished without my Cricut. I have 35 cartridges that fill my every need. If I know I am going to use a certain character in different colors, I cut them all at once. They are then ready when I am. For small characters, scraps are used up. I love that I am able to make different sizes as needed. Gracie
